Wasn't talking about intervention. I was talking about accomodating her by paying disability after she cuts off her legs. I took the OP's comment that she isn't crazy at face value.

Didn't OP say she is crazy? Maybe I'm going crazy.

Yeah I misread it at first. If she is legitmately insane, there's a case for stopping her to begin with. She doesn't seem insane from the story. Seems a lot like a sex change type situation to me.

She should cut off her legs and then use them as clubs to beat government officials to death?

If a two year old wants to jump out of a moving car, should we let him? It's his body.

I acknowledge this is an unfair extrapolation of your statement, but it goes to show that a line should be drawn somewhere. Your statement suggests that there is no line.

Depends on what you consider a "person." I'd say it's more than just being a biological human.

Fair enough. Do you have a definition handy? I'm not trying to give you a hard time, but seriously - is this woman in a state of mind to make judgement calls about her body?

I guess you could make the point that if we allow people to slowly kill themselves with McD's food and cigs, then there's no justification for telling them they can't cut their legs off.
