Default Re: Recommendations on Strip Hotel (Poker Rate) for 4 people

FWIW, 2 friends and I stayed at the Wynn a couple weeks ago on the poker rate. All of us were given keys and we weren't charged any extra. We had 2 queen beds and the price was just what you were looking at. The room was big enough for 4. If you want to get a suite I know the rates go up but not sure what to. Anyway I doubt you will all be in the room at the same time so it never seems that crowded. I highly reccommend the Wynn. The rooms and poker rooms are great. If you want to play table games go across the street to the TI, the limits are lower.

Thanks all.

GMFlash01 - did you venture from the Wynn to Bellagio or down the strip? If so, did you cab, walk or rent a car? I would guess Bellagio is walkable, but MGM is a little too far? Also, did all 3 of you contribute to the 8 hour play requirement? Did the room have a couch for the third person?

Wynn/ TI/ Mirage to MGM isn't too far to walk if the weather's nice. Offhand, I'd guess it took me about 25 minutes to get over there.

The cab ride cost about 10 bucks including tip.

The monorail is five bucks per person. I prefer it to a cab. There's a stop at IP and one right at MGM. I think it's only open till 2 am.

So far the Wynn is in the lead. Based on TTs new thread about hotel pools, sounds like they have a good one there as well.

Anyone think I'd be better off at the V, CP or Bellagio?

Did the Wynn raise the amout of hours needed for the poker rate? I was there a few months back and it was only six. I have stayed every place you have listed and would pick the Wynn. Just register two of you to the room to avoid the extra charge. Sign in at the poker room, go eat lunch, play until you are ready for dinner and then sign out. Should be able to clear the hours in one day no problem.

We went all over the strip. You can walk to the Venetian, Mirage, and TI. I am lazy and we took a cab to Bellagio, around $10.

Don't bother renting a car, you won't use it enough to justify it. If you want to go to other casinos just take a cab to the middle of the casinos you want to visit and just walk around, then take a cab home.

All 3 of us were able to contribute to the poker time, but two of us had it all covered in a day. It was 6 hr/day and we had 24 hours in 1 day between 2 people. Again, they didn't charge us for the third person being in the room so talk to them about a 4th when you make your reservation.

We had a room with 2 Queen beds. There was no couch. I am sure they have suites with couches and will give you a poker discount on those. For us all we needed was 2 beds. We were never on the same schedule and only had about 1 person sleeping in the room at once. You won't be doing much sleeping so I wouldn't make that a big issue. They had roll away beds if you need one for a little extra per night.

GMFlash01 -

I spaced on the play, it is definitely 6 hours of play, I must have read it incorrectly off of AVP.

I have only played at the Wynn once, so I have not explored the Casino much. Are any of the casual dining places listed on the website any good? reasonably priced?

Thanks.

I'll give the poor man's recommendation. Prices at the Excalibur can usually be had for 2 digits(often$79) during the week and low 3 digits during the weekend. Up grade for $10/day will give you 2 queen beds and a large sofa. Have done this with 4 people but if you're going to sleep only and with buddies ,who cares? The Excalibur pool sucks. The advantage here is that you can play poker anywhere for these are regular(non poker) rates.

The Excalibur is on the south strip next to MGM/NYNY,etc. Good location and the casino , to my mind, offers all you can want in table games and slots. Also a poker room which can be fun. KInda dark in the hallways of the hotel-knights, maidens, you know, but you get used to it.

If you're doing this on the cheap and would like to use your money for poker/other. then this should be considered. Check other low price rooms on the strip but Excalibur rooms are large and will offer the extra sofa. Next trip I'll stay at the Venetian for I understand you'l get 2 queen beds and a roll out sofa bed. If you can aford the Venetian w/o the poker rate this can free you up significantly.

Also, 2 people checked in and asked for 2 keys each and had 4 keys. No problems after that-show your key to the guard as we went up to the room and didn't miss a step. Also if you plan toarrive early(pre 4:00 pm) each hotel will have a phone number in which you can pre register and get your room upon arrival in the am. Last trip there were dozens waiting for the 4:00 check in when we were given the number by a kind stranger. Called the number from the hotel and got our rooms immediately.

I just booked the Wynn. They charge the first night immediately, 48-hour cancellation policy.

The person that I spoke with in the Poker Room indicated that after two in a 2-bed room, they would charge $50 per night for an extra person "if I told her I was bringing an extra person".
