Default My DSL is being disconnected by incoming phone calls...?

I've had DSL for years now and this never happened up until a week ago. If I answer the phone it will kill my internet connection. Once I hang up the internet comes back in 10-20 seconds.

Anyone have any idea what's going on? Bad wiring? Bad cables?

Thanks for any help.

The DSL filters can go bad. Do you have any spares that you can try switching out to see if one is bad?

Did you get a new wireless handset land line phone? Possible very bad interference going on - unlikely but always possible.

As other poster said, try replacing the filter on the phone line, but honestly the filter should not dictate whether you can make a connection or not unless your phone lines in the house are THAT bad in which case, rewire your house

I'd call the phone company if the filters don't do anything.

I've had the phone for a while now and nothing out of the ordinary has happened. Recently though when talking on the phone there would be ridiculous amounts of static. Enough where the person on the other side is almost inaudible. Was this what you were referring to nuclear?

Thanks for the tips guys.

Voice is down low, I think the 4Khz range and DSL is far far above that. Since the filter has no active part in the DSL signal but is only to block those frequencies so you can hear each other during a phone call, it sort of sounds like the filter is feeding back into the line giving the DSL signal troubles. So it's either installed backwards or as the other poster said it's gone bad. If you have more than one filter, take it off an unused line and replace the one at your telephone; then see if that fixes the two problems.

IMO, it is probably the filter.

But it could also be if you have wireless and you are talking on a wireless phone on the same frequency.
