As of this afternoon the game was not spread. Did ask one of the dealers and she said it should start by the end of next week, and that they've had lots of people asking about it.

I don't believe for one minute in the waiting for the game plaques for it. 8/16 was spread for over a month as simply a piece of paper taped to a different plaque.

I think the real question is wether it will be located at the main board or the high stakes board. Playing 20/40 has been much more enjoyable since all the 5/150 players weren't hanging around the high stakes board.

I've also heard a lot of talk about a 5-10 blind structure with buyins ranging from 600-1000.

I've played games at CAZ without plaques at all. On more than one occasion I've got a shorthanded omaha 5-150 or omaha8 5-150 game going and never had a plaque for it.

More news and some opinion...

I was talking to some of the people in the know at Fort McDowell last night. If CA starts spreading the 10-150 game, the Fort is going to respond by increasing the buy-in cap on their 5-150 game, it was suggested it would be $600. It was also suggested that this was going to happen rather CA spreads the 10-150 game or not.

The more I think about this as a 5/10 blind game, the more I dislike it. You have to stop and ask yourself why this type of game is so profitable in AZ... And the answer is pretty simple, NL is not allowed in AZ, and this spread limit format gives the illusion of playing NLHE.

The problem(s) I foresee if you do a 5/10 game is that first and foremost you destroy the illusion of NLHE. In the current 2/5 or 3/5 structure, standard opening raises tend to be in the $25 to $50 range, making the typical 3-4 way flop pot about $100 to $200. This still provides the illusion of playing NLHE on the flop and maybe even into the turn.

But if you double the blinds you have effectively killed the illusion. Now opening raises are going to be $50 to $100 with flop pots being $200 to $400 in size. In comparison to the max bet of $150, this is now a limit game in most of the players mind. Now add this to the assumption that the typical fishy player is not going to buy-in for the max, it is going to take all of the play out of the game for the more experienced players.

Honestly I think the game will fail. There will be some excitement, and it will be a wild and crazy game of short stacks getting it "ALL IN!" on the flop. Deeper stack players will get frustrated with the lack of play beyond the flop, and sooner or later the fishy players will become disillusioned with the NL "style" of play and stop sitting it.

If they want to improve the game, I have two suggestions. First increase the buy-in, in fact take the cap off. This is a limit game, and at the end of the day, it doesn't matter if someone buys in for $10K or $300. Second, change the blind structure to 5/5 or even take a page from cali rooms and do a 5/5/10 20 to go structure.

IMHO the only thing that will improve this game legally is increasing the max buyin, and making the min buyin 300. You want the game to play a bit like NL in the players minds so let them buy in for 100 big blinds - 1,000 should become the max buyin. As currently played the maximum buyin is 30 big blinds, its too small.

I think those changes to make it a better game for the skilled player. But the casino has to worry about the fish. As much as I'd like to see an uncapped buyin 5-150 with a $300 minimum, my guess is CasinoAZ worries about losing customers permanently from going broke too fast.

I mean, is the game so bad now?

Percula - I agree with pretty much everything you said. I asked about the game on Saturday when I played, got the plate thing again. The biggest thing I think that will not make the higher blind game good is the fact that it will be mostly only the stronger players that will play it! If there are two options, most of the fish will be plenty happy to buy in for 3 bills and have the smaller blinds to deal with opposed to the bigger game.
The game is good right now, bottom line.

Having a 5-5 blind structure would be interesting and something I would like to see. As TT mentioned increasing the max buy-in would help tremendously. I think if the max was moved to 6, even 500 would make for a much better game. Increasing the minimum to AT LEAST 200 would help a lot as well.

I honestly don't know if I'll play the bigger game if it actually happens because of what I wrote in the beginning here.
