So I made my first trip to Hollywood Park Casino last week since moving to LA a little over a year ago. I sat in a very juicy 6/12 game. Got sucked out on several times, and managed to lose ~$50.
Anyway, I was chatting and joking most of the night with a nice older gentlemen in seat 5. He ends up raising it from early postion. I have AA on the button and we end up capping it three ways before the flop. (Third player was loose passive Asian woman that every game in LA seems to have.) He checkraises me on a raggy flop and we cap the flop three ways again. On the turn he leads out, smiles and whispers so the third player can't hear, "I flopped a set." I really didn't think he would lie to me. He handn't been all that aggresive throughout the night either, so I folded my AA after the Asian woman called. Well, as it turned out he tabled pocket sixes and never had a set. As Kharma would have it, the Asian woman caught her runner runner flush, and he ended up saving me money. I didn't say anything to the man the rest of the night (I did give the guy a piercing stare after he showed his hand.), and he avoided eye contact with me for the rest of the time I was at the table. I know It was my own naive stupidity for folding the hand, but I still thought it was a pretty sleazebag angle to shoot. |

How is that even an angle?

How is that even an angle? [/ QUOTE ] Angle might be the wrong word. I guess he was setting me up for this play all night with his friendly banter. I dunno, I still think it's kinda sleazy, but I guess I'm applying my own moral standards to the game. |

I guess the short answer is that I never believe anyone, and I'd certainly never participate in soft-playing. Frankly, if the guy told me he had a set, I'd put him on some kind of draw.

Hmm, makes no sense why he'd say it to someone involved in the hand. I have caught people saying something suspicious at the other end of the table. I don't always believe this either, but there have been times. Guy flops a set and under his breathe is like 'call, call, call' or 'raise, raise, raise', then he re-raises. I was in the middle of the action and folded to the 3 bet.

That is why poker is the greatest game ever invented...Lying is considered a work of art. In my opinion, you have no basis for getting angry with the gentleman. He was merely playing the game.

Was playing 1/2 NL, had AK on a AKQxx board. Player to the right of me says he has it and I should fold. I didn't know what to do. I call his $40. Of course he had the broadway.
