Clearly, most of the people have no idea, why "checking out" could be wrong. Here is the link to a thread Is checking out "unethical"?

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for linking to this thread cause if you didn't I was going to and I'm really too tired to deal with 2+2 searching .

so i guess if you arent allowed to fold when its your turn to act, you are required to check then and act like you have a good hand so as not to give out information?

Personally, I really hate when people check out, because I think it's bad for the game, but it's also often bad for them, so I've rarely complained about it.

[/ QUOTE ]
Yep. I've never complained about someone checking out because I figure I have about an equal chance to benefit from it as anyone else when it happens, and someone mucking his 74 when KQ2 flops gives me an increased chance of winning with my 33.

But it absolutely can have a significant impact on a given hand. And boy I've seen someone get a tongue lashing from another player for checking out when the third player left in the hand gleefully stole the pot and showed the bluff while explaining he never coulda done that if he was facing two opponents instead of one. Once you see it impact a hand you understand why it's bad.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's still not wrong. Yes, it does provide a teeny bit of help to a late position player with no reading skills.

However, that effect essentially balances out over time - players are in different positions, etc. and so who bennifits varies. The only way it would produce a systematic bias is if one player is doing a better job of getting into hands in posiion than another is. If that's the case, then that it's just helping the better player.

Here's a hint for all those that are anoyed by it when in early position: if you think it generates to many steals from late position, then call the flop, check raise the turn, and take down some extra pots with air. Voila - the checkout bennifits you rather than the guy in late position.

In the first thread that was linked to (by IceKing I think) elsewhere in this thread I tried to paraphrase "...Wisdom from Ray Zee".

Did I get it right, more or less?

Checking out on the river while three handed is very bad form.
Checking out on the flop while nine handed is not so horrible.

Slippery slope arguments aside, I agree with this.

I don't understand the "don't want to show them my cards" arguement. I mean, I would at least check and if the people behind me check as well, then just muck in turn(and that's only if i like played the board and couldn't possibly tie). At least that way the people behind you don't have any extra info.

I played at Potawatomi for the first time tonight. I wont be back. Great players in the games, but horribly run casino. Bring on the casino in Kenosha and I might come (from Detroit)
