One method I think people say is good if you want to drink less but still have some drinks. Is too take 30days off from drinking totally. Then when you return be more conscious of your decisions about drinking.

If you can afford it, consider drinking more often.

I know it sounds like bad advise, but you'll feel less bad about your drinking if your drunk.

Go to the gym and exercise 1-2 hours a day. Eat a semi-planned healthy diet and drink lots of water. Then see if you still want to binge drink.

I would do this;

Work out 4 days a week
Drink only 1nce a week (heavily)- By heavy I mean Just enough to get drunk
Drink 2 days a week (lightly)- By lightly I mean Just for social purposes (1-3 drinks)

now if you were doing 42 drinks a week, you will be down to about 9-16 drinks a week.

Spend the money you save on stuff like; gym, hbo, cable tv, cloths, dvds, etc... this way you wont be able to spend it on alcahol.

Also, try to associate yourself w/ ppl who dont drink as much.

- If you cant do this, and still drink 42+ drinks a week, I suggest you:

a. keep drinking and never look back
b. get treatment

I find it very hard to quit one thing without replacing it with another. Something good, something bad, doesn't seem to matter much as long as it takes up the mental space the other thing did.

That said, trying to do something positive instead and actually succeeding feels incredibly good. Even if it doesn't always work out 100%, just trying still works to take you at least partially away from a bad habit by eating up time or diverting mental energy from doing harmful stuff.

If you could take the time you spend smashed and use it more productively, you could probably do some cool things, maybe some useful ones, if you're into being practical, which it sounds like you need a good dose of.

Anyway, you can find something challenging or interesting out there, unless you're just being wilfully retarded and trying to tell your own self to go f*ck yourself.

So if just trying to quit to quit is hard, quit by accident by being way too busy doing something else, and then realize, "Damn, it's been a long time since I was doing that other stupid sh*t!" It's having too much time or unfocused mental energy that leads to wasting it like an imbecile. Take away the options to do stupid crap, and you're doing better by default. After a while, you'll lose the craving to be an idiot.
