picking a psychologist
i wanted to try to get some ADD medication, but that appointment could take a few weeks, so since my benefitss covered it, i thought i would try a psychologist out of curiosity in the meantime.
so if you were a mid-20's guy, how would you choose? male/female? black/white? younger/older? jew/gentile? look for some kind of specialty area? i basically have a list of about 50 names - no recs or anything. how do you pick? |

Re: picking a psychologist
psychologists cant prescribe medication.
psychiatrists prescribe medication. usually they dont participate in therapy. if youre just looking for medication, call their office and ask questions, ask for local recommendations or do what everyone else does and roll the dice. |

Re: picking a psychologist
You want to be comfortable disclosing to the person in question. Figure out which demographics you're most comfortable with and go from there.
