Villain is a loose caller, both sides of the flop. Once before, he'd called the flop with just a gutshot draw, then minraised the turn when it hit. On the other hand, I'd seen him go way, way too far with weak top pair-type hands. No stats. The minraising concerns me, since I'd only seen him do that with the nut straight, but my sample is small. Go nuts and hope he has a hand like KQ or QJ, or just call because of all the possible straights?

I have to raise here man. I mean checking a set or straight on this board on the turn is so awful I wouldn't care if he had a straight/set on the river. Thats just a cooler IMO.

The action continues:

I raise to $20. He reraises to $40. You suggest a push?

Just call the initial river bet. Your read is that he minraises monsters - it's very possible that he could have a monster on that board. I can't see any reason why he would minraise TP there when he didn't bet the flop or turn - unless you've seen him do that before.

I guess he could have slowplayed 44 though.

As played I really want to fold to his 4-bet on the river but would call.

This all changes if "I'd seen him go way, way too far with weak top pair-type hands" means he would minraise the river with them.

numf - there are a ton of two pair combinations that he probably thinks are the nuts and will call a third raise with. This is why I like reraising the guy.

I don't mind the re-raise and it's probably standard against most people - it's just that we have a read here so that makes me worry about the minraise. If we have reason to think his range for "monsters" is wide then I think you are probably right and the raise would be best.
