Default Rugby: Super 14 Betting Thread

Super 14 is the best non-international rugby competition in the world. It comprises of 5 teams from South Africa, 5 from New Zealand and 4 from Australia. Starts tonight at 10:30 PM Pacific. Games can be watched on mediazone.com for a fee. Here are my picks:

Force (-6.5) vs. Highlanders
Chiefs (-4.5) vs. Brumbies
Cheetahs (-2.5) vs. Stormers
Lions (+260) vs. Waratahs

Enjoy!

The Chiefs don't lose much with their missing All Blacks and their back row will be very good with Messam the best uncapped player in NZ. The Brumbies are without Larkham and will miss the departed Giteau immensely.

Highlanders are without Hayman and Oliver in the front row and are missing Nick Evans due to injury. When Evans got injured last year the Highlanders were terrible, and although Callum Bruce improved over the course of the NPC, it's still a gaping hole as is the departure of Neil Brew. The Force made some excellent signings in the offseason and while it may take them some time to gel, they should still win this one by about 10.

Stormers are soft up front as usual. The Cheetahs know how to play as a team and have an awesome pack.

The Lions are good value against the Waratahs, who have a lot of injuries and departures. The Lions play pretty well at home and have a lot of talent in their backline. The Tahs will be jetlagged and are young, especially in the halfbacks.
