Borgata WPT Hand: JJ in BB in the money
This is a hand from the Borgata WPT a few days ago. My buddy is beating himself up for misplaying a critical hand, but I'm not so sure it was that bad a play.
16 players left. Blinds 10K/20K with antes. Hero is #3 in chips with $1.3MM, and has JJ in BB. MP has 900K, and open-raises for 60K. Folded to Hero, who pushes. I think his push was +EV, although I think there may have been a better line. Thoughts? |

raise to 220, [/ QUOTE ] That was my first thought as well, but then I started to wonder... If he reraises you, you instafold, but what if he just calls? You may wind up OOP with ~480 in the pot, and 680 left in his stack...Do you fold to his flop bet if any A,K, Q comes? Do you feel good about betting out if he checks to you? |

Re: Borgata WPT Hand: JJ in BB in the money
reraising is not always correct here, sometimes you can call and see a flop, and play poker.
don't fear flops! that said, i'd probably make it 280k |

Meh, there are no real good options with stack sizes here. If I called PF I'd felt an overpair and if I reraised and he called I'd jam any flop. If I reraised and he pushed, I'd have to combine reads and pot odds. This is kind of a sticky spot, but I just can't help but feel that overbet pushing is insanely gross.

Re: Borgata WPT Hand: JJ in BB in the money
The push is a little crude and reckless, but this is a tricky spot to reraise given the stack sizes.
If you reraise to 200, you need to call a push, but that may be the best play. The fact that you have a close decision against a push indicates a reraise may not be best. If I had 5-10x the raise amount, then I reraise lightly with the intent of getting all the money in. With 15x the raise amount, I generally flat call, since when you reraise, villain can push and give you a difficult decision unless you have a very big hand. So I think flat calling is probably best. Second choice is raising to 200 with the intent of calling a push. Pushing is third best, but not as terrible as the results probably made it look. |
