[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] You are wrong nng2000, american money is not actually backed in 'gold' or any other valuable resource. It's just a form of currency that we have become accustomed to. You don't honestly think for every dollar we have circulating around the U.S. we have an equal amount of 'gold' for it do you.... [/ QUOTE ] jesus christ. ok, nits. its still backed by the word of the government, thus making it way more valuable than a blank piece of paper. [/ QUOTE ] that's i think, kinda the point of the lecture, asshat. [/ QUOTE ] he may be trying that, but its a poor agrument. the prof. is obviously trying to teach about arbitrariness. there's nothing arbitrary about twenty dollars. yes, it is a piece of paper, maybe the same as a blank piece of paper, but it has stated, FACTUAL, value, something a blank piece does not have. |

That $20 bill is worth something only because we all agree collectively to accept it in payment for $20 worth of goods or services. Let's say some horrible catastrophe happens in the world and gasoline or food becomes extremely scarce. Well your tons of paper money is now good only for making a fire, cause ain't no one gonna accept it anymore for real goods like gasoline or food. [/ QUOTE ] Good point. |

Re: Brag : Sociology prof is a balla
You're sociology prof has a cursory understanding of some kind of silly little theory that he shared with the class; probably one that he thought of while jerking off to porn and playing NL50 last night. Or did he publish a paper on it? Yawn. The whole class is shocked because they are 18-22 years old. Also, he's gonna [censored]' tape that $20 back together. tl;dr.

[ QUOTE ] Did he rip it exactly in half, or a little off center? Cuz can't you still use a bill that is more than a half? [/ QUOTE ] If it's just ripped in two, I would think you could just tape the two pieces together and use it. Most stores wouldn't care. [/ QUOTE ] I think I remember learning in economics that most(probably all) banks will allow you to exchange ripped currency for new bills. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing already takes old and worn bills out of circulation and reissues brand new currency to the federal reserve which pushes it out to the banks. |
