Also, it's really hard to make a solid argument about how Chritianity is bad for society, without it being totally biased.

So... Jesus says stuff, people do stuff because of it, and it's not his fault. OK. How about we ignore all the "good" things that people did in the name of Jesus, call it a wash, and move this discussion back to SMP.

Mother Theresa is the single most overrated human in the history of the planet. The world is considerably worse off for her having existed. I was surprised to see her not on your list. Of those on your list, I'll pick Rachel Carson. People are still dying because of her. I disagree that she has a generally positive image, however. I'm quite fond of ex-president Jimmy Carter. I'm somewhat curious as to what your spin is on this one.

Not that you asked, but the most under-rated person ever is Norman Borlaug. Less than 5% of 2+2 has ever heard of him, but he saved millions of lives (arguably over a billion--no joke and no hyperbole).

I don't see how Calcutta or the world is worse for Mother Theresa having lived.

Even if someone taken off the streets by MT didn't get possibly life-saving medical care, I'm sure she and her organization genuinely cared for those under their roofs, and thats much better than the alternative of dying in the streets alone.

Plus the immeasurable good of the people she has inspired.

Borodog -- what's your beef with Honest Abe?

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh, I don't know. Invaded a sovereign nation, created the draft (i.e., slavery), got 800,000 people killed, arrested entire state legislatures so they could not convene to vote on secession (Maryland), created entire states out of whole cloth to stack Congress (West Virginia), shut down 400+ opposition newspapers, imprisoned 13,000 Northern civillians without trial in military prisons, had armed troops turn away Democratic voters at bayonet point from the polls during his "re-election", repudiated every principle the country was founded on, reenacted everything listed in the "long train of abuses" in the Declaration of Independance, etc, etc, etc.

But I'm not mentioning him, because it would piss Anacardo off.

[/ QUOTE ]

This would probably put him more in the "Bad person who has done the most good" category.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm unaware of any good the dirty [censored] did.

Without lincoln, the united states fragments. Economic inefficiencies develop as a result of hindrance interstate trade. No super power ever exists on north american continent to put down the spread of facism in europe. Millions get killed and life generally sucks for everyone.

[/ QUOTE ]

Lol. As stabn said, take it to politics.

[/ QUOTE ]

so just to clarify, you get to rant and make all your crazy points deny he did anything good, and then say take it to politics. wow dude, just wow.
