Folds to a 20ish/12ish with normal steal stats CO who opens, I 3-bet JJ in the SB, CO 4-bets, and I call.

Flop is Axx rainbow. I check/call.

Turn is another x. I checkraise...

Yes because it's much stronger than the chezzy flop c/r hack's constantly use.

It's not horrible, but seeing as I'm a hack, I tend to check/raise the flop and donk the turn.
Unless your opponent is odd (that is to say good, which tends to be odd)you get nice fold equity by going with the tried and tested hack method.
What you did may induce with your method are call downs (which are probably good, depending on the value of x) or very expensive turns, depending on what your opponent has.

Nobody ever folds QQ or KK HU, particularly not to a dinky little flop c/r. Your play is working cuz they had KQ or whatever.

DaveR, in my experience, they only are betting the turn with QQ-KK if they are planning on calling a raise. They might bet other pairs and fold to your raise, but that's about it. But lately I've been seeing a lot of people capping dinky pairs HU, so you might want to make a gutsy call down here.

I tend to take the passive get to showdown route here, I have tried the turn c/r with poor results

I usually go to showdown as well here. I don't think the turn raise folds out better hands and calling down here costs us the same. I might understand the checkraise if you had significant history with the villian or if he was a lagtard and you were doing this for value. With the facts given it doesn't appear that this is the case.

Going to showdown here is badddd. It's between doing this and check/calling here and check/folding the river or sometimes just check/folding here. c/c all 3 streets can't be right against a supposed reasonable player.
