MicroEconmics questions troubling me:
first one; Camille likes Wes better than Giorgio, likes Giorgio and Gustavo equally well, likes Scott and Wes equally well and prefers Scott over Hendrik. Which position does Hendrik take in her heart? the options are: a. 2nd or lower b. 3rd or lower c. 3rd or 5h d. 4th my initial thought is that it's 3rd or lower, the 3rd or 5th option seems tempting, but if you think of it that way then it would have to be 3rd or 6th as one option or 2nd or 4th as the option. if scott and wes are equal as well as G and G, then i don't see how 3rd or 5th can the right answer. i'm probably overthinking this a ton, but i just wanted other's input |

Wes > Giorgio; Giorgio = Gustavo; Scott = Wes; Scott > Hendrik.

The answer is 3rd or 5th.
Here is the diagram I drew W====S G==G H It cannot be 1st or 2nd, since they are both above H; they must be W and S. It could be third. It CANNOT be fourth, because both G's are liked equally, which means that one of the G's has to be number 4. |

ok, when i first started doing the problem, i was making a mistake in my thinking and never allowed myself to get away from this so i was just confusing myself/going in circles....yea i just re-examined it and realized that it has to be c and is trivially easy, i should have just written the names out or something.

Hendrik could equal G&G, no?
Still that doesn't make him fourth under any circumstance (just a three way tie for third) I guess. |

I think the answer depends on how the numbering works. For example, if you had 122x, is x 3 or 4? If you had 12x2, with x = 2, is x 2? Or can it be 3/4?

[/ QUOTE ] Took me a while to understand (thought you were talking about a math problem or something), but in most cases the numbering is 1-22-4. If the teacher really thinks otherwise, you have a valid argument and should take a dump on his desk. |
