Default How do you start to be a Pro?

I really need a mentor,

What is the best poker room for U.S. players to play Tourney games? I am new to poker 1 year or less and wanted to start with a deposit in a room where I can get into the best tourney's, I figured if I can win $55,000 a year, I am cool.

Also what is the best ring game room also. I figured I would have a seperate room for Ring games and Tourney's. Or is it best to have it all in one room?

I will start at .25/.50 and work my way up to $50/$100.

Again Total from Tourney's $55,000 per year

From Ring Game $15,000 per year

Are these goals reasonable? Also what must I do to start achieveing them? Do I need to play more live games? I play in the Local Pub and Nationwide Tourney's Live for free is this the same as if I was at a casino?

How do I find mentor?

Too right. When will people learn that apostrophes are used to signify possession and not plurals?

Really, you should probably just start out at 50/100 if you want to become a pro quickly.

I'll give you a serious comment. Look at the FAQ sections, look at the permanent threads on each board, look at the archived Super Posts, use the search engine for questions like this.

If you want a realistic assumption of what is going to happen, free money play is COMPLETELY different from real money play, it will probably take you years of learning to get to the point where you can consistently make that much money ina year and most people go bust before they ever get to that level. Use the resources this site provides, but don't make posts asking these questions because they've been asked a million times and there are tons of things all over 2+2 that will lead you to old posts about it. Good luck.

Everything you said after "I really need a mentor" proved that you really need a mentor.

Becoming a poker pro is not easy. Your post demonstrates that you do not have sufficient understanding of the game to even contemplate this.

However, let me try to answer your questions:

PokerStars is the most popular.

If you can win $55k a year, you would in the top few percent of the players on this site.

I do not believe that this is likely.

It is probably easiest to play on one site, as it may be difficult to transfer your bankroll from one to the other at the moment for an American.

No.

Study.

Read the forums.

Study.

Play.

Study.

[ QUOTE ]
Do I need to play more live games?

[/ QUOTE ]
Probably not. Live games are slower and you can't analyse your play as easily.

[ QUOTE ]

[/ QUOTE ]
Not even close.

The play at free pub tourneys is so INCREDIBLY bad it is not even comparable.

Don't even think that there is anything that can be transferred from one to the other.

Browse the forums; perhaps PM someone who seems to make sense and can communicate effectively.

Keep in mind that they are likely to charge you an hourly rate at least comparable to their long term poker profitability.

this post is.............. classic

lol, why even think about coming a "pro" if you haven't even beat .25/.50 NL yet? The most I've ever been up from poker is like 55,000 and I never even thought about going pro. It would be such a dumb move IMO until you make at least like 200k. "pro" meaning quitting jobs, college, ect..

Agree with pretty much everything but this. If you know what to look for, it's pretty easy to analyze play in live games. In fact, you have more time between hands to analyze stuff.

I don't see a problem with the goal, I see a problem with the method. Just a hint: If you want to play tournament poker, start with SnGs!
