2nd Video Card causing Windows to Crash
I have a new computer (from Micro Express) that came with a NVidia 7100 video card. I run 2 Dell 2001FP's no problem with it. I then added an ATI Radeon 9250 card to run a Dell 2407 and the 3 monitors actually ran fine for a few days, but now Windows won't start. When I took out the video card, no problem - windows loads fine. I uninstalled and reinstalled the video card software/hardware and windows won't load again.
Oh and I used the ATI card for a year or so in my old PC (coupled with another ATI card) with no problems. Is there any reason the NVidia card and ATI card don't get along? Do I need to get a 2nd NVidia card or is it something else? Thanks. |

Re: 2nd Video Card causing Windows to Crash
What slots are both of the video cards occupying?
I don't know much about running dual cards, but I have heard that some think under XP that the cards must be the same...don't know if it's true or not though. |

Re: 2nd Video Card causing Windows to Crash
Hmmm, that' interesting. The Nvidia that came with the machine is in a PCI Express X 16 slot, which is the only slot like that in there. I was putting the ATI card in a PCI slot and there are 3 of those.

Re: 2nd Video Card causing Windows to Crash
ATI and nVidia don't always play nice together (if ever?). The cards don't need to be the same...but if they're the same chipset or at least the same brand the chances are better you will have a working multimon setup.
I've run mismatched cards before...but only with one semi-modern card and the others were old PCI junkers like 4 or 8MB trident/matrox/$5 generic ebay card/etc. |

Re: 2nd Video Card causing Windows to Crash
Thanks for the responses. Put in a 2nd nVidia card and it everyone's working perfectly.
