I havent had grandparents since I was 7 years old.

Both of my father's parents died before I was born, as did my mother's mom. My mothers father was my only grandparent but lost his battle with cancer when I was pretty young.

I'm 21 and had a grandpa that was born in 1896... chew on that for a minute.

Both my Dad's parents and my Mom's Mom died by the time I was 8 (I'm 35 now); my Mom's Dad is 93 and has remarried 2x since Grandma died. He's a stud.

This is one of the rare times I wish I was a redneck; if that was the case my mother would be 50 and my grandmother in her mid-60s and this poll wouldn't exist.

[/ QUOTE ]

When I was born, my mom was 1 month away from her 20th birthday, and my grandmothers were 50 and 42.

Both of my grandmothers are still with us, and will be 90 and 82 on their birthdays.

I lost my paternal grandfather when I was 18, my maternal grandfather when I was 27. Both sets of grandparents were married for 50+ years.

Redneck. Did you notice how so very many of the posters in this thread have 0-1 grandparents left (going by the responses, I haven't voted in nor seen the poll results)? That was shocking given the forum demographics.

I think among the posters in OOT it's exceptionally unusual to have multiple great-grandparents alive so there was no point in even bringing it up.

EDIT: in addition to this originally being posted in ATF, I don't know how the questions got reversed. I suck.

This is an interesting thread tuq, thanks. I thought it would be pretty clearly distrubuted amongst grandfathers/grandmothers that are still alive but it's obviously a mirror image of what the stats say - women are living longer, which sucks for men. Or perhaps it's a blessing that you get a discount on the amount of years you have to listen to your wife b*tch later in life

My dad's mother is in her late 60's and has no real health problems apart from arthritis. My mother's mother is physically quite well at 81, but has advancing alzheimer's disease. My parents went on a holiday to Vanuatu recently and I was here to look after her. Man, sometimes you gotta laugh at the things people can do when they have alzheimer's - it's the only way you can cope with it sometimes. I'm incredibly close to my mother's mother, moreso than anyone else in my family, and it breaks my heart to see this happen to her.
