I don't like your fold on the turn. If you don't have any reads on the SB, you can't assume you are beat yet, especially heads-up. I would at least call down. Many players will play aggressively with a 6 here or possibly a pocket pair higher than 88. You just don't know. You have a very good hand right now and folding is a bad idea.

BTW, the flop play is ok.

I call down since it's heads up. Most players wait until the turn to push their trips, so you're probably good here often enough. A third player in the pot makes this more difficult.

**grunch**

Preflop is perfect. On the flop, your raise is perfect. After SB's 3bet on the flop, without reads, I show this down cheaply - call the 3bet on the flop, call turn and call river.

i felt like b/c of the flop he was reraising to get a strt draw out and the turn presented another draw so he bet out instead of the standard call on flop and c/r the turn w/ trips here. also, i like to let others pay for my reads when i start at a new table.

You're not calling down for a read. You're calling down because the chances of being ahead are good relative to the size of the pot.

I like calling down. He cold calls your PF raise. With what hand would he reasonably do this that you lose to? Aces, eights, and sixes. Maybe A8s? I don't know about K8s or Q8s.

without reads I call down.

Also, calling the flop to fold the turn is no bueno. If you think you are behind, you only have 2 outs to improve. Its not worth seeing the turn so you should fold the flop.

However, you can't give the guy credit for an 8 just yet. He could do this with 99-QQ, a straight draw(if he's aggro), a 6(for two pair), 77, 22-55(if he's crazy).

I go to showdown against this guy.
