There is a huge value-added tax added to anything from a cup of coffee on up- that enables the lady pouring your coffee to live a decent lifestyle but doesn't make living cheap for you. The taxes on alcohol are especially high. I almost had a heart attack when I saw the prices at a bar in Oslo.
