Default Organizing/Running Charitable Poker Tournaments

I live in a state without casino gambling. Charitable organizations are allowed to host 2 poker tournaments a year to raise money.

I'm thinking of starting a company to run and organize these events for the charities. It won't be a full time gig, mainly just doing it to supplement my bankroll.

I'm just wondering if anyone else does this and would be willing to answer some questions.

Thanks.

I have had to put together two charity casino events in Illinois. My memory for details may have faded some, but I'm happy to answer what I can. Overall, I recall that paperwork was a hassle, especially since we wanted friends and supporters of the organization to deal at the event, so we had to get all their social security numbers and some personal info. Add in all the normal event-planning headaches, and it can get to be a logistics nightmare.

Still a blast to put together in hindsight, though.

If you're only doing the poker tourney organization, then it may not be so bad and is probably very replicable in process.

Me and a couple friends were hired to run a 110 person event here in Vancouver. We set up on 2 floors with 16 tables of 7 players per table plus 1 dealer and it lasted about 12 hours. Fully catered with valet and the dealers were hired from a local bachelor party service so they were all hot chicks. They dealt topless. We didn't charge enough for the amount of work we had to do though. Should have charged somewhere in the neighborhood of 3-4k if we wanted to make it worthwhile and they'd need to move buyins from 100 to at least 250 to be able to afford us plus all the other services at that point.

This sounds interesting.
I'm thinking about going into event planning, and hosting networking events in my city. The problem is finding a location. I would also like to host a golfing event.

If you do it right, you can do pretty well.

In the Chicagoland area, this company out of Rockford, IL does it. They have between 2-5 events per week.

Rockford Charitable

But since there are probably a ton of pitfalls here, you should probably get a lawyer.
