Those figures are probably comparable given the cost of living in the Midwest as compared to LAPD.

Redirect: When the table is short handed is good customer service still to keep the game moving? I sat at a table with 6 players and the fastest dealer in the casino sat down. We jokingly told her she should slow down cause the rake would be stealing all the money on the table if we didn't get some new players. The floor overheard this and observed our table for nearly the entire 30 minute rotation.

Dealers pool thier tips at Foxwoods correct?

I would think this would decrease you $/hr specificly for the better dealers.

The cops are not as poor as some think, at least in major cities...

Yep, and I don't begrudge them any of it. I think I could enjoy being a cop at state university in a small college town where your biggest worry is whether the frat vs dorm capture the flag game is going to get too rowdy. But there is no amount of money they could pay me to do that job in a big city.

You'd be amazed what dealers make at Bay 101. The waitresses make even more, but they work a little harder.

Yes, that's why you always find them sitting in the 20 and 40 games. I like to think of it as the live poker form of rakeback. :-)

[/ QUOTE ]

A large portion of dealers play, and not always very well. So yes, they are making decent money, but they aren't always keeping it.

In the poker world, good customer service IS keeping the game moving, not being slow and patient.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is not always true. I have dealt plenty of games where the players don't want the e moved along. They are having a grand ole time drinking and telling jokes and they don't want to be pushed to pay attention to the game. Obviously the house an would like to move the game along but the players don't always want that.

I have heard on average that most dealers that play poker are action monkeys that love to raise etc. dont know if this is really true though.

Having started out as a player long ago and then moving into dealing (while still playing) I can see myself why this happens.

It happens, at least for me, because things get monotenous when sitting in the box, and especially so when you've hit some bad games, like a tight 1/2 NL game that would want you tearing your eyeballs out. I have grown a vile disdain for 1/2 NL because of dealing.

So when that happens, the dealer gets off work, goes to the table and needs to let loose some steam, and that comes in the form of being the action monkey. The chip spewer.

The average dealer makes 25 hour plus there base pay of 5 to 7 hr. Females in general make about 5 an hour more in tips.

Most of the dealers I have played at games like 2/4 - 4/8 were 100% action monkeys. Lots of peculiar and aggressive (to the point of stupid) action. The converse to this is people I have talked to (not dealers) had the impression that dealers were "good" players. Maybe this is more evident when they play NL tournaments and the like? Every now and then we see dealers at final tables on TV etc. Wasn't scott fishman a dealer in a past life?

Fischman was a dealer out here. Ted Forrest dealt, and there are a bunch of other big names too. I wouldn't put too much stock in the idea that all dealers are "action monkeys" though, since many of us were players prior to dealers.

I don't think it makes much difference in skill level whether a person's a dealer or not, although there are the benefits to being able to keep track of the pot, count cheques and evaluate stack sizes quickly.
