Default Preflop Check: AK what do you do?

NL $100
You have A,K in first position and raise to $4.
TAG on the button makes it $14.

Okay, now same situation against an unknown.

I definitely 4-bet 100% in the first situation.

I'm less likely to 4-bet in the second, but I still might.

Playing postflop OOP w/ AK sucks, so I'd like to get as much money as possible in preflop if I think I'm in good shape against his range.

What do you raise to? Is all-in bad?

The higher stakes advice I see has people betting 30 in both more than likely.

If he calls, you likely need to improvers.

Unknown = reraise to $32; probably call a shove b/c by then you have 1/3 of ur stack in and ur probably flipping.
TAG reraises button...I would reraise to $32 and bet flop; completely shut down if I miss but get called on flop. If TAG is tricky, then just fold b/c he has position, and if you 3bet, could cold-call u with KK or AA.

All in is fine (what I usually do). 40 BBs is fine too, but you pretty much have to call a push at that point.

Thanks for the great advice. I like pushing, but am scared to do it. But, I also suck at playing AK after the flop. I usually check/fold a non-A or K flop, and get all my chips in on a A or K flop.

Against an unknown in this spot, I feel a bit lost. I prob just all in it, and be done with it.

pushing is fine if you think he can outplay you

potting is fine if you think you can sometimes take it away unimproved, and if you think you're getting 3-bet light, so AQ and AJs are in the villain's range - and pushing is fine then too

basically i'm not sure when you would only pot it.... def. when you're 200+ deep
