can you beat the rake on small limit games
I have beenj playing for three weeks on a 3-6 game at the majestic in Indiana-I know my hand selection is good even if I stay too long after flop(kk,QQ) when Ace flops. My question is this game even beatable with 10% rake up to $5.00 and $1.00 for bad beat

The house is the only winner, they end up with all the money, and those who participate are either degenerate gamblers or idiots with nothing better to do. |

Specifically, it depends on your opponents. You're being raked 1 BB per hand, or about 3-5 BB per hour depending on level of table action, which is ridiculously high. So there are certainly lineups that, no matter how good you are, could not be beaten with this structure. If your opponents are VERY bad, you might stand a chance. However, to stand that chance, you're going to have to play very clean, disciplined poker. If you're really chasing KK and QQ multiway when an A hits, your game likely has so many leaks that there's no way you can overcome that rake. |

Re: can you beat the rake on small limit games
Build a spreadsheet and update it IMMEDIATELY after every session. Include every penny spent, including food. I "charge" myself $10 for gas and car wear and tear for each visit. I've made a little $ at 2/4-4/8 + some low NL and Omaha. IMO, this is the only way you can tell if you can win in the long run or are deluding yourself.
Play the limit of poker you want to or are comfortable with, but winners keep accurate score. |

My opinion: http://poker.wikia.com/wiki/Low-limit_rake
I would invite others to edit that article and better express the contrary point of view (or for that matter, better express my view). |

Re: can you beat the rake on small limit games
Is 3-6 beatable after rake/toke? probably. Is it beatable for a significant amount? No, $1-$6/hr is not worth it. Play 3-6 for fun, if you want to make slightly above a minimum wage living, play 6-12.

No, $1-$6/hr is not worth it. [/ QUOTE ] That's entirely dependent on a number of factors -- most importantly one's value system/motivation for playing and opportunity cost. |
