Re: Why is the US so good at sports?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] The real question should be why does New Zealand pretty much kick ass at any sport they compete at? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah good point. FIFA world rankings: 1. Brazil 2. Czech Republic 3. Netherlands 4. Argentina 5. Spain 5. France 7. Mexico 7. USA 9. England 10. Portugal [/ QUOTE ] Look mum, They mentioned us on 2+2 Not bad eh, for a nation of 16 million people to be ranked third in the world biggest sport. Re: Why is the US so good at sports?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] 280 million people dwarf every other rich, first world country in the world. That's why. [/ QUOTE ] Since you added "first world county", are you saying it's economical? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, poor countries don't have time to waste playing games, they are usually more concerned with little things like eating. They may be good at one or 2 sports that are popular there but won't have enough people to compete across the board. |

Re: Why is the US so good at sports?
[ QUOTE ]
Meh, China and India have us crushed in population, but they're all coming from the same gene pool. The Melting pot effect of the US allows for not only a wide array of genetic traits, but also means that we have people bringing their cultures games with them. If Kazakstan invents a new athletic competition tommorrow, its going to get to the US before it gets to China and India because of our immigration. Once the game is here, we have the wide assortment of genetics and the money to find the best person for the game. [/ QUOTE ] If a TV sportscaster ever said this he would be looking for a job tomorrow. |

The real question should be why does New Zealand pretty much kick ass at any sport they compete at? [/ QUOTE ] Hmmm...you mean like: Rugby (didn't even make the last world cup final) Rugby League (hmm...beat the Aussies this year, but we tend to pwn you at it usually) Cricket (Ahh...another sport Australia absolutley dominates you at) The real question is why are there so many talented Australian athletes, let's look at a large range of sports: Basketball (Bogut, plus about 30 kids plying their trade at D1 schools) Football (well, 2 punters playing in the NFL at the moment, as well as the best punter of the 90s being one of ours) Baseball (Lots of Aussies in the major leagues and Class AAA, also finished second at the last olympics) Cricket (Absolutley dominating the world at it, have for the last 6 or 7 years, only lost to England last year because our entire team (with the exception of Shane Warne) played terrible, and even then we almost won the series) Tennis (Lleyton Hewitt > Andy Roddick) Swimming (Ian Thorpe, Grant Hackett) Soccer (We made the world cup!) Poker (Joe Hachem) |
