WTF? Why all the hate? Because I just registered and am asking tough questions about the future of a particular deposit method?

This is a tough time for all of us, and I know that tempers are flared and people are sensitive -- but please, explain to me what I've done wrong?

[/ QUOTE ]

I want to flame you so hard, but since you are asking for it so hard I must resist. Kinda like when some douchebag is trying to gode you into a fight by presenting his chin and saying, "come on, hit me, you know you want to."

So let me guess. This is just some stupid prop bet with another 2+2er to see if you can be the most flamed poster on 2+2?

Dude, I wish I were cool enough to be friends with another 2+2er who would make such a prop bet with me. Instead, I am an internet poker nerd who is researching OFAC regulations to see what implications they will have on poker site deposit methods. I still don't get why I'm getting all this hate.

You're obviously smart. That means that you realize that there are a lot of morons in this world. Morons that are too dumb to come up with the idea of ruining this way of depositing for poker players, but not too dumb to actually carry it out.

Writing a letter to WU won't do [censored] lol. WU is used for all kinds of illegal things worldwide and they dont care, as long as they get their insane fee they charge. It's funny people in this thread think that sending them a letter would tell them something they don't already know and make them it impossible to send money to Stars cause of it.

Point taken. I didn't assume 2+2 would be a hotbed of people who would want to ruin online poker, but I guess I should have been more careful.

Mods, please feel free to lock / delete thread if you think it will prevent some future harm because an idiot reads this thread and decides to send WU a letter because of it.

If Stars gives the same name to everyone, then the Feds will just make an account and deposit, then use that account to process a withdrawal, cancel, and fax Western Union with an letter advising them that the name is a front for illegal gamboling and that will stop the process. I think.

I envision a Fed sitting in a room with poker sites open 24/7 monitoring this. Hopefully, I am wrong.

I am pretty sure sportsbook sites have a large list of transfer names to draw from to do their sb depo's. WU is very common among sportsbooks, not as common for poker. You have to figure each major poker site has a minimum of 100 names/employees to draw off of.

Can't you use fake names anyway? Why else would WU be the #1 choice for scammers?

Western Union has been used by sportsbooks since the very beginning of this industry.

Back in the late 90's there were attempts to stop WU transfers to sportsbooks. They were succesful initially, but only temporarily.

That's when the books simply started using "jose perez" in Guatamala and many other names ad locations.

There would be no way to stop those kinds of transfers without shutting down WU alltogether.
