Default $50 if you can help me retrieve a deleted file!

Computer is at radio station. Interview was recorded in audio editing software that I dont know the name of. I can find out if its important.

Producer saved the file to a folder. He then edited it and thought he saved it to a new folder and deleted the original.

I was told that there is a way to save it. Help!!!!!!!!!!

Tuco.

A lot depends on the storage environment (network drive = no recycle bin) and disk activity (was it saved on a busy fileserver? Ten more time that passes the lower the chances of recovery).

First, check the obvious (not in local recycle bin and a thorough search for anywhere the producer might have saved the new file: search all drives (including network shares) for files w/ that sudio program's extension created today).

If no luck there, you will need to try some data recovery software, which may or may not work. A buddy of mine had had varying degrees of success with data recovery software...sometimes where one program fails, another works. Unfortunately, I have no specific software recommendations for you. Google NTFS Undelete Utility and see what turns up. I believe a few have trial versions that will only recover like up to 1 MB or something, but could tell you how much of it the reg'd version could recover...if it's enough, then reg it.

GL!

Not free but well worth the $... mostly meant for full disk recovery and maintenance(works extremly well) but I'm pretty sure that it can do file stuff and such.
Spinrite - http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm

usually once a file is deleted it isn't totally dissapeared, it's just removed from the listing of files so it should be recoverable.

Well, the idea is that if space occupied by your file has not been overwritten yet, you have quite a good chance to recover it. Otherwise, it less likely, but is possible in some cases, at least partially.
