Re: Neteller Federal charges, news conf this afternoon per SDNY
[ QUOTE ]
So if they can't travel to the US, why not make some money? [/ QUOTE ] Because they are a publicly traded company, and because they promised their shareholders and everyone else that they would comply with US law. I don't think they have much choice but to pull out now. |

Re: Neteller Federal charges, news conf this afternoon per SDNY
I don't feel good about this at all. It just seems as if the government has some plan to shut out all the major sites from the US market and then restart with new sites that are taxed and regulated. I hope this doesn't happen.

This could all be easily avoided if 75% of all the profit was handed over to the government. Then we could all live happily ever after!!!!!!!!!!! Extreme Sarcasm |

Re: Neteller Federal charges, news conf this afternoon per SDNY
[ QUOTE ]
You are probably right based on past events. You would think that one of these so-called public companies will defend their business. If Neteller leaves the entire US market, then they can close their doors. Another private e-wallet will take their place soon. Why not just leave the market segment that is violating the Wire Act by accepting bets over the telephone? But maybe these companies are not that smart. They have not been very smart so far; at least according to Ms. Shulman and Professor Rose . [/ QUOTE ] I would say Ms. Shulman and Professor Rose could probably be assumed to be biased toward the industry that pays them...maybe?? -1 |

Re: Neteller Federal charges, news conf this afternoon per SDNY
From Neteller's statement: [ QUOTE ] Further information Mr Lawrence resigned as a non-executive director of the Company on 13 October 2006 having stepped down as non-executive chairman of the Company on 11 May 2006. Mr Lefebvre resigned as a non-executive director of the Company on 15 December 2005. [/ QUOTE ] From the Complaint filed: [ QUOTE ] Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Since in or about June 2006, the Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI") has been conducting an investigation of Neteller PLC, a company that is based in Isle of Man and is publicly-traded in the United Kingdom. The investigation has revealed that Neteller PLC conducts and facilitates illegal financial transactions between gambling customers in the United States and numerous offshore online gambling businesses. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On or about August 12, 2006, a cooperating witness (the “CW”), who at the time was located in Miami, Florida, used a computer to open an account on Neteller.com (the “Neteller Account”), and the CW electronically transferred $400 from a bank account in Miami, Florida, into the Neteller Account. On or about August 22, 2006, the CW, who at the time was located in Miami, Florida, used a computer to open a wagering account with an online gambling business based in Antigua (“Online Gambling Business #1), by electronically transferring $400 from the Neteller Account to Online Gambling Business #1. On or about August 24, 2006, the CW, who at the time was located in Miami, Florida, used a computer to access Online Gambling Business #1's website, and the CW then wagered $250 on a National Football League (“NFL”) football game and won approximately $200. [/ QUOTE ] How are they charging Lefebvre with a crime that occurred 8 months after he resigned from the company ? SF |
