Playing small pairs 6max
Just curious what the consenus is on playing small pairs in 6 max NL100. calling UTG or UTG+1 seems wrong. Raising in early position seems ok but often when called by a late postion player making a cbet when there will often be 2 or more overs doesn't seem like a good idea either. Calling a raise in late position seems ok as is 3 betting with position. Any thoughts? and when im talking small pp say 22-88 or so.

And maybe villian stats and play type may factor in....

Re: Playing small pairs 6max
I don't know any good players who limp them UTG. You raise because you disguise your hand and to get value when you hit a set.
I will rarely cbet a small pair with more than one overcard on the board OOP. |

Re: Playing small pairs 6max
I will fold all 22-88 when UTG or UTG+1 in 6max. I will raise with any of them if CO or the Button if folded to me. Otherwise I just play 77 and 88.

Re: Playing small pairs 6max
Raise pp UTG.
I'll c-bet most of the time against one late position caller. If there's a big card or two on the board, that will just scare him more. He most likely also has a pp or suited connectors, so big cards on the flop are not good for his range. If the flop comes like 789, that's not good. If the guy does not fold to c-bets, that's not a good spot to c-bet either. |

Re: Playing small pairs 6max
I'm sure this has all been covered in many places, but here's my current stance on small PP from early position.
I like to raise often, for a few reasons: 1. I steal the blinds frequently. 2. If called the pot is bigger, increasing the value of sets and successfull c-bets. 3. Cover for premium hands. 4. It's fun, I get bored playing only premium hands from EP, and these are the best hands to add, IMO. |
