QJs flops combo draw (middle pair + FD) - mid-stacked - standard?
Short stack criticisms cheerfully ignored. ( Why would you choose to play a short stack?)
Full Tilt No Limit Holdem Ring game Blinds: $0.10/$0.25 6 players Converter Stack sizes: UTG: $15.65 UTG+1: $5 CO: $30.05 Hero: $9.45 SB: $32.15 BB: $75.40 Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is Button with J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 3 folds, Hero raises to $0.75, SB calls, BB calls. Flop: J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($2.25, 3 players) SB bets $2.25, BB folds, Hero raises all-in $8.7.... Villain is super-mega-TAG: 10/5/6.33, folds SB to steal 77% over 400+ hands. I think this is absolutely standard, especially in light of the stats, right? I'm asking not really because I think I played this wrong, but because I'm interested in the ensuing discussion about combo draws. |

with your stack, of course.
a more interesting discussion would be about how to play them with 100bb+ |

Fair enough -- how do you play them with 97 BBL behind, everything else identical? Actually that hypothetical will get us closer to the point I'd like to make once everyone's had their say.

Re: QJs flops combo draw (middle pair + FD) - mid-stacked - standard?
OK, so people don't think I've lost my mind posting about trivial short-stack decisions, here's the point of this exercise:
Turn: T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($19.65, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $19.65) River: 4[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ($19.65, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $19.65) Results: Final pot: $19.65 Hero showed Jh Qh SB showed As Jd I think too often on combo draws, I don't take the effort to think through what hands are using up my outs. For example, here SB could easily have not only top two but also a set, AQ, or KJ, all of which make me considerably less than even money with two cards to come. Now, given his aggression factor, I think some other hands that I'm beating may be in his range, like 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], K [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], or even KQ. So the short-stack push is still fine. But my point is, I shouldn't reflexively be looking to get all the money in with pair + FD when there's a good chance my two pair and trips outs are no good. |

I've just switched from playing short-stacked to playing full-stacked (after reading msg boards here for a bit). I imagine if I spent a bit of time looking at old hands in PT, I'd find a good number of my ai losses were attributed to a similar blindspot in my "strategy." Always something else to think about with poker! |
