About the flop check raise, I don't think the "building a big pot" is a big factor. I think what's more important is how people will play their hands when you check and how they'll play when you bet. A flop check could induce some hands to take a stab, when they would have folded to a bet.

I bet a fuckload of hands here, so I dont check-raise much in this spot. Only once in a while for balance.
Anyways, there are tons of cards that will put you in a tough spot on the turn if it gets checked through and there arenīt really that many that will give them second best hands. Also, you actually represents strenght when you get your check-raise in, which may cause you to get less value than by just bet, bet, betting it.
