Working out pot odds to call a BB reshove
I can never seem to work out precisely the right odds I need to call when the BB shoves your bet all-in.
Here is a hand from a final table I was at yesterday... PokerStars Game #7905934225: Tournament #40389119, $20+$2 Hold'em No Limit - Level XII (800/1600) - 2007/01/12 - 22:16:55 (ET) Table '40389119 9' 9-max Seat #7 is the button Seat 1: Hoolock (39650 in chips) Seat 2: littlescoot (56244 in chips) Seat 3: Jakey1000 (41157 in chips) Seat 4: nassplif (15929 in chips) Seat 5: ActionDavidK (10076 in chips) Seat 6: hunkyrabbit (43890 in chips) Seat 7: stiesnking (14777 in chips) Seat 8: esra gibb (31723 in chips) Seat 9: jake002 (16554 in chips) Hoolock: posts the ante 75 littlescoot: posts the ante 75 Jakey1000: posts the ante 75 nassplif: posts the ante 75 ActionDavidK: posts the ante 75 hunkyrabbit: posts the ante 75 stiesnking: posts the ante 75 esra gibb: posts the ante 75 jake002: posts the ante 75 esra gibb: posts small blind 800 jake002: posts big blind 1600 *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to hunkyrabbit [Qh 8d] Hoolock said, "turnabout!" Hoolock: folds littlescoot: folds Jakey1000: folds nassplif: folds ActionDavidK: folds hunkyrabbit: raises 3200 to 4800 stiesnking: folds esra gibb: folds jake002: raises 11679 to 16479 and is all-in hunkyrabbit: calls 11679 *** FLOP *** [2c 9h 2d] hunkyrabbit said, "damn 8" *** TURN *** [2c 9h 2d] [8s] *** RIVER *** [2c 9h 2d 8s] [4s] *** SHOW DOWN *** jake002: shows [8h Ah] (two pair, Eights and Deuces) hunkyrabbit: shows [Qh 8d] (two pair, Eights and Deuces - lower kicker) jake002 collected 34433 from pot Hoolock said, "these guys are good !!!" *** SUMMARY *** Total pot 34433 | Rake 0 Board [2c 9h 2d 8s 4s] Seat 1: Hoolock folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 2: littlescoot folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 3: Jakey1000 folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 4: nassplif folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 5: ActionDavidK folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 6: hunkyrabbit showed [Qh 8d] and lost with two pair, Eights and Deuces Seat 7: stiesnking (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet) Seat 8: esra gibb (small blind) folded before Flop Seat 9: jake002 (big blind) showed [8h Ah] and won (34433) with two pair, Eights and Deuces Now as I have been playing agro, the BB's shove didn't indicate an especially strong hand. Also he was playing fairly loose so my read was that he was shoving with any Ax hand. Assuming this is true and assuming that he didn't have an 8 also (say he had A-6) did I make a good call here? |

Re: Working out pot odds to call a BB reshove
Seems ok to me. You're getting somewhere in the ballpark of 2:1.

Re: Working out pot odds to call a BB reshove
you are getting 2 to 1 on your money the question is not just pot odds which a lot of people disagree with. i dont like to put a huge % of my stack in with the worst of it. here i would call the pot odds plus his possible range plus this sends a message that im loose but am not afraid to put my chips in the pot.

Re: Working out pot odds to call a BB reshove
Yeah.. I thiought it was a good call mathematicly, but it did leave me with a short stack and a terrible image and ended up getting knocked out in 7th.
It's just I see a lot of big name aggro players make loose calls like this all the time purely because the odds dictate it. I used to always lay down in situations like this, but now am willing to play a bit riskier to accumalate chips. My problem is that I suck at working out if I have the right price to call. In this hand I did have 2-1 pot odds to call. Does that mean If I have anything better than a 33% chance of winning it would be a good call? Could anyone plaease help in explaining how to translate pot odds into a % chance you need to win? Something like... If it costs 10,000 to win a 15,000 pot your hand needs to have x% chance of winning ...10,000 to win 20,000.. you need 33% (is that right?) etc... |

fold pf because of button and bb's stacks [/ QUOTE ] Yes, you are begging for trouble here. These guys are just waiting for a legitimate situation to pull a re-steal. |
