Default Best book for a complete newbie?

My girlfirend recently quit her job. She wants to give internet poker a try only problem is she has never played cards in her life. Which book would you recommend for a complete newbie? I was thinking GSIH, but I never read it myself, could it be a bit advanced for her?

Thanks.

I'd recommend GSIH.

Byron Jacobs also has a good beginner book as well called: Beginners Guide to Limit Hold'em.

I'm really wondering how these two thoughts go together. Was she thinking she could go pro just like that? Or is it just to fill the time between interviews?

Just something to pass the time between interviews.

Does GSIH cover NL cash games, and NL SNG tournaments?

It all depends upon how bright and how serious she is. If, as you say, she is just killing time between interviews and is not playing to make a living then GSIH is fine.
Small Stakes Hold 'em by Miller/Sklansky/Malmuth is essential if she wants to make a living. (Note: This is about limit not no-limit cash or tournament poker). If she is really bright and dedicated then add in Theory of Poker by Sklansky.

For some reason your question reminds me of the guy a while back who posted about how his 9-year old kid bugged the old-man into letting him play on-line and how the kid ran $50 into a thousand. I guess talent is talent and if your girlfriend has it and a work ethic she could make some money out of the starting gate--not an easy thing to do. Posting your question here was a good first step. Good luck to her.

Don't really know where to post this, but I didn't wanna start a new thread so I hope to get some replies here.

What do you think she should begin learning? NL cash, SNG, or limit?

I don't have any experience playing limit but I would imagine the games are soft at the micro level. NL cash, and SNG I have the most experience so I was thinking one of those two, but I'm not sure if that's a good place to start a newbie.

Your advice is appreciated.

I think limit HE is the best place to start off. If at some point she wants to move to NL, the fundamentals she learns by playing limit will be helpful.

LHE or SNG's are the simplest place to start.

LHE was allways the advised place to start. However, I'm thinking nowadays a better route might be SNGs, and then you can get playing microlimits NLHE much quicker, where you can actually make much better money than LHE microlimits.
