6 handed 20-40 live game. A 25/20 player in the cutoff open raises. Button folds. You are in the small blind with 5 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. You call.

This is pretty bad. You have 5 high and haven't even taken the initiative. He isn't folding the flop for one extra bet, so how are you going to win without a pair and without putting in a lot of bets out of position? Also it's worth noting that you're ignoring a read on the BB. When coolcalling, BB's style should affect your decision making. This hand is way too crummy to coolcall though.

You have 5 high, are getting 3.5-1.5 odds, that may potentially become 3-1 if big blind calls. This is insufficient even if the big blind is an idiot. The high card value is not enough to play for pair value, and you're not getting sufficient (implied) odds to play for drawing value -- you probably need at least 5-1 to even consider that call.

I did, I misread and thought we were in the BB. I would revise to "pretty bad" and "fold"

the only thing saving this thing is 5high

like the only way im calling over 1 bet cold with this hand is if i'm getting like 6:1 fullring and i'm playing with a bunch of idiots and i have a fast image

I think it's terrible. Almost as bad as open raising QJs UTG 10 handed. Anyone who makes this play work must be an expert

I think opening QJs UTG is profitable at some tables. I don't think this is profitable at any table.
