Russell will continue the precedent of ultra athletic horrid black QBs in the NFL.

[/ QUOTE ]

You do realize that he is a young 21 year old who completed nearly 70% of his passes against some of the best competition in college football right?

Not to mention he's freaking 6-6 and 260.

[/ QUOTE ]

You do realize Chad Pennington is the all time completion % leader in the NFL?

You do realize Chad Pennington doesn't have close to the physical tools of Russell?

Anybody worried that Russell could be a sitting target in the pocket, develop knee problems from taking hits + being heavy? Maybe I'm just being stupid though.

Pennington's arm = Russell's arm? Pennington's size and strength = Russell's size ans strength? This has nothing to do with black and white, it has to do with Russell being a remarkable athelete. (BTW Pennington above average NFL QB, by a lot).

You do realize that Completion % is one of the best indicators of NFL Success coming out of college right?

You do realize that he averaged over 9 YPA this year right?

You do realize that when Pennington is healthy he is a very very good QB right?

You do realize that someone who had the accuracy of Pennington and was also 6-6 260 and had a rocket of an arm could possibly be the greatest QB ever right?

most unsurprising event ever

when he wasn't big on staying right after winning the sugar bowl, i knew he was gone. Almost everyone says they are staying after their team wins the big game to end the year.

[/ QUOTE ]

After the Sugar, he spoke of his team once in the past tense. Def though, no surprise.

i was in awe watching him throw during the sugar bowl ... simply amazing arm strength

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah. His torso technique isn't even very good, because it doesn't even need to be. He can throw a 50 yard pass barely twisting his hips. That's just disgusting.

[/ QUOTE ]

He can flick the ball 50 yards with 3 guys hanging onto his legs.

Do we have to compare black college QBs to black NFL QBs? Are there no white NFL QBs that he is like?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you think that there is a white NFL QB that he compares to then go ahead, but its only natural to compare him to daunte due to sheer size.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah I understand that, but still it just funny how all this happens all the time.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think you can go a step further and say it's funny how often college players are compared to an NFL player who happened to go to that school. I often hear "Dwayne Jarret is a lot like Mike Williams" or "Tedd Ginn Jr is the next Terry Glenn" when neither comparison is very accurate.

FTR, at the beginning of this year I was comparing Troy Smith to a very poor man's Drew Brees (this before Brees put up MVP numbers). I don't think there's a good comparison for Russell, a more athletic Duante Culpepper is about as good as I've been able to come up with. Before Culpepper turned into a sack and turnover machine.

I just don't think much if anything shoiuld be based on how badly he killed ND. ND has a very, very weak D. I would base it on how he did in the SEC which was very good. Booty, Henne, both QBs I don't think are very highly rated tore this D apart as well.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agreed that ND D is very weak and to base Russell on his very good SEC season.

Disagree that Henne & Booty are not top QB's.

My QB rankings for the '08 draft are:
1.Brian Brohm (May enter in '07)
2.Erik Ainge
3.Chad Henne
4.Bobby Reid
5.John David Booty
