Re: 2006 - 2007 NBA Season Discussion Thread
Steve Nash is going to win his 3rd straight MVP, mainly due to the lack of competition. Dirk and Kobe are both winning this year, but they're doing it by taking a reduced role and playing more team oriented basketball- that usually doesn't get noticed come MVP time. Lebron and Wade are playing worse than last year. Duncan is saving himself for the playoffs as usual. KG won't make the playoffs. Yao is hurt. Carmelo's suspension killed his chances. That leaves basically Nash, Arenas, and Boozer. Boozer is a nice player and all, but he really doesn't belong in the discussion. I say it ends up like this:
1. Nash 2. Arenas 3. Kobe |

Re: 2006 - 2007 NBA Season Discussion Thread
I am not sure why you are writing Dirk off. His numbers are about the same across the board, except PPG and FGA. If Dallas has the best record come the end of the season, it could easily be him. I think Iverson is a darkhorse, especially if Denver makes the playoffs around a 4 or 5 seed. Still not sure how KG isn't a candidate, but if the playoffs are a pre req, I see your point.

Assani,
I'm not saying I disagree but I really hope this doesn't turn into another interminable Nash debate. |

Re: 2006 - 2007 NBA Season Discussion Thread
well Tuq, if you say he deserved it the past two years, then there isn't much of a debate where or not he deserves it this year. His numbers are better overall.

but if the playoffs are a pre req [/ QUOTE ] I also think Dirk & KG should be considered for MVP, but Wade is my pick. I think it's unfortunate people won't vote for guys who's team sucks. I mean we're punishing these players for crappy jobs their general managers do. |

[/ QUOTE ] OK, you successfully trolled me. You're correct of course, provided that nobody has stepped it up even more than he has by the time the season's over. I think the best example of why he won't win (assuming things stay as they are) is tonight's national title game - a lot of voters went with Florida simply because they didn't think Michigan deserved another chance. Another good example is not giving the MVP to MJ every year in his prime, although he probably deserved it. Magic and Karl Malone are at least two people who won when it seemed fairly obvious that Jordan was the better candidate. |

Re: 2006 - 2007 NBA Season Discussion Thread
Assani,
We aren't even half-way through the year. I don't know if you're trying to just rouse up the age-old Nash debate, but why bother posting this? He'll be a candidate, as will Arenas, Dirk, and a couple others. Duncan and KG will both get ignored because they're so damn good that their bars are too high. |

Re: 2006 - 2007 NBA Season Discussion Thread
tuq,
voters also might feel really uneasy about a < Stockton caliber point guard joining Bill Russell and Larry Bird as the only 3peaters. If he does win it, I won't mind too much. Guy's been incredible. Basically, voters shot themselves in the foot with the first award. At the end of the year, if he does deserve it and they pass on him, it'll be pretty funny. |

Re: 2006 - 2007 NBA Season Discussion Thread
kc,
I could see that happening. But if it turns out he is the "best" candidate and doesn't win it, I hope I'm not as rabid as some of the people who think he hasn't deserved one or both of them. As for Assani, he's got a hard-on for Nash that would make Dirk Diggler blush. Plus he's kind of a weird dude in general, but it's a kind of weird that's grown on me for some reason. |

I think Assani is a much better SE poster than he gets credit for.
