in gambling (particularly sports betting), to "fade" is to bet against someone else's position. so in craps, fading the shooter would presumably mean putting money on Don't Pass.

Basically, people betting with the shooter want him to do two things. Roll a seven or eleven when coming out (starting his turn), or roll point numbers (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10) and make the point he rolled on his coming out throw before rolling a seven and crapping out. Also, they want to avoid throwing 2, 3, or 12, because these aren't point numbers, and their come bets lose. A bettor who fades the shooter usually bets the "don't pass" and "don't come" bets, which pay when the shooter craps out or throws a 2, 3, or 12.

lets say we're shooting dice in the alley.
you got the dice and want to bet $100.
to cover the bet.
someone might say.
ill fade $20.
another person might say ill fade $50.
so $70 of your bet is covered.
your whole bet wont always get covered.
so if you win you get $20 from one person.
$50 from another.
if you lose you pay $20 to one person.
$50 to the other.
so in other words.
fadings like saying ill take some portion of your bet.

In street craps, the +EV position is to always fade - fading a shooter on the pass line gives you an approx. 1.41% advantage.

Thanks guys.
Just for the sake of the conversation I will describe the greek version of playing(illegally)street dices.
You get paid by rolling,6-6,5-5,6-5,3-3.
you loose if you roll,1-1,2-2,1-2,4-4.
The others are blanks and the other shooter plays.
each player rolls once and the guy who rolls a winning shot, keep the dices, setting a bet,the players accepts part or full of that action and the rolling begins from the winner.

That's not craps.

And in that game, it's even both ways (unless you can influence)
