OP, if I got that upset over $5, I don't think I'd be able to set foot in a casino.

[/ QUOTE ]

Comments like this completely miss the point. At no point does the OP make a big deal over the amount of money. The fact that he almost lost 5 bucks isn't the issue; the issue is that it's possible that this dealer (and perhaps several others) are dishonest enough to steal chips from players. If they are, I wouldn't want to play in their games.

When there is money involved there are people that will be willing to steal it. This is why well managed poker rooms have procedures in place that assume everyone that can steal will steal.

I would also be interested in the view of dealer's here for a $5 toke per down per player when it is HU. "Generous"?

[/ QUOTE ]

I think $5 per down is really generous. If the other player does the same then they're getting $10 for half an hour plus whatever they get paid, not to mention the 2 HU players are keeping the game alive. If it's only like a 15/30 game or something I can't exactly give away much more than $10 an hour before it becomes not worth it for me to play any more. If OP was playing like 100/200+ I guess that $10 per down wouldn't be too much, but I certainly wouldn't think poorly of someone for tipping $5.

Just so it's clear, I completely agree with this. I just took exception to youtalkfunny's implication that the OP was being nitty over a measly five bucks.

+5; Insightful

(Aces' point about the amount being secondary.)

That's why I think, as a dealer, you'd be idiotic to risk your reputation for integrity for a finsky, but I guess my opinion is worth less until I've walked in the dealer's shoes.

Should I disclose the cardroom or the dealer's name?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. Both the cardroom and dealers name please.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to this thread. I appreciated all of the comments and support. I think AKQJT's comments regarding what likely took place were spot on. I also appreciated Aces Mcgee and jfk's comments on the ethics and psandman/RR/etc.'s professional take on it.

I've decided mentioning the name of the cardroom and dealer is no big deal, since this thread has shown me that people will come to their own rational conclusions:

The cardroom was Oaks in Emeryville. The dealer's nickname is "Moon", he is an older gray-haired white man.

Two dealers at Resorts East Chicago were recently fired for stealing $5 chips from the pot and dropping them with their tokes. I don't know how often they did this or for how long it had been going on, but it really scared me because I never noticed it.

For the record one of them was arguably the best dealer in the room (untill I found out about the stealing).

Moon is too fast at showdown
He sometimes does the showdown and mucks cards so fast
I'm not sure if the board was read right.

He also never taps the chip-rack before pocketing
the toke.

If you protect your hand this isn't possible. Note: I have said this many times, but for those that are new here, protecting your hand means physically holding it until you see you are beat or have been pushed the pot.
