Default overbets and draws

Interested in thoughts on the wisdom of over-betting a pot in order to force someone on a draw not to chase.

Example:
Last weekend, 1-3 game, I raise on the button with pocket 8's... BB and the guy to my right call. I hit my set, but there are two hearts. Two checks in front of me, I bet the pot ($40 or so). BB goes out, guy to my right calls. Turn is a diamond, check to me, I bet the pot again ($120), another call. The river is a heart, he moves all-in for another $150. I know he was chasing, and made it... I fold, he shows A-3 of hearts, just to rub it in.

So, I am wondering, should I have pushed all-in on the turn for $300 and priced the guy out? I mean, I was hardly slow-playing my set... anyways, any thoughts appreciated.

He chose to chase, you priced him out, he hit and you folded. If you keep doing this you will take all his money.

By betting the pot on the turn you're giving him horrible odds to hit his flush. He called, you lost, it happens. Over the long run, players like this will net you a lot of $.

You shouldve bet less on the turn to price him instead of pricing him out.

Sets aren't auto cash anymore than aces are auto cash.

Unless he would have called more than pot on the turn, I think you played this hand great and should consider it as if you made a lot of money on the hand. You really want his turn call, pushing is a frightened nit play.
