Gamble is addictive. As an FBI agent, you shouldn't be doing money related addictive activities. What if when you are short of cash and "enemy" knows your weakness and trap you with money to fullfil your gamble desire?

I'm not saying FBI won't hire you. However, when there are money related issues on line (inside an FBI case) for you down the road, playing poker may have bad impact on you.

See the movie "Good Shepherd"? Most jobs don't conflict with playing poker. I doubt FBI is one of them.

As an employee of the F.B.I. (pm me if you have more questions), the mere fact that you play poker does not disqualify you. I got the job. The polygraph that they administer consists of three parts (don't quote me for certain, I do not administer them): finding out if you've ever committed a crime, finding out if you have contacts to foreign intelligence agencies, and determining if you have questionable behaviors that would make you more likely to be manipulated; i.e., you're a problem gambler and you're more likely to sell sensitive information due to your desperate situation, a person prone to drug abuse, etc. That's not what they're looking for. In fact, I can tell you, there are many F.B.I. employees, both special agents and peripheral employees, that play online poker (do not forget, all F.B.I. employees are subject to be polygraphed at any time, so it would do no good to lie about it).
It could only get in the way of you getting a job if you're a problem gambler.

thats what i dont get about polygraph, fgators sees convinced that he is a winning player that is just on a bad run, so would a polygraph pick up that he is degen if he thoroughly believes he isn't?

Did you use a check or credit card to fund your account? Did you purchase Poker Tracker or poker books with your card? Did you ever cash out and have money sent to you from a poker account? When you go to a casino do you use a players card that tracks all of your play and how much time you spend there. Did you ever gamble with any of your friends, family or anyone who knows you? Can you be sure they will all be able to hide the fact they know you play poker? Are you the member of a gambling forum with 4092 post that can be looked up? The back ground check will find out. The question is when they do find out will you explain your interest in gambling or will you never know if you were not accepted because you lied to the FBI, your potential employer.

Who knows. With a gaming back ground your first assignment may to track down internet gambling transactions.

The handling of sensitive material is cause for concern if someone who has access to it might put his [censored] self in a position where he might be motivated to sell said material (like suddenly needing to cover losses/loans). So as long as you can honestly characterize yourself as someone who isn't a problem gambler, doesn't take out loans for gambling, doesn't lose much, etc. it won't be an issue, because that's really what they would be concerned about.
