Dealing Procedure
We've had this happen twice in our home game and each time we've debated the correct procedure:
On the river 1 players card gets exposed (often the first position player -- much drinking during said games). Tonight we dealt the other 2 players river card, shuffled exposed card, redealt river to first player. Anybody know the correct ruling on this one? Thanks |

Re: Dealing Procedure
I don't think that what you do is all that important, but you should have a procedure in place. I'll outline the procedure at Canterbury, which I assume is similar to most places, along with what I understand the reasoning to be. Robert's Rules are linked in the FAQ, and they might offer some insight as well.
If the first player's river card is exposed, then everyone's river card is dealt face up. This will hopefully give everyone an equal disadvantage, although it will sometimes be very easy to see that so-and-so hit/did not hit his draw. Whoever was first on sixth street is also first on seventh street, that is, the new up-card doesn't affect the betting order. If anyone other than the first player has his river card exposed, the procedure is different. Everyone else gets their river card dealt face down. The guy with the exposed river card is given an option--he can declare himself all-in, or he can participate in the river betting. He can't change his mind when it's three-bet, though. Re: Dealing Procedure - Question for Andy
Happy New Year
Resurrecting this thread to ask a question. When does the player with the exposed river card have to commit to either being all-in or participating in the river betting? Does this happen when it is their turn to act or do they have to declare before any river action? Thanks, Patty |

Re: Dealing Procedure - Question for Andy
They have to declare before there is any action on the river. A floor-man must make this ruling.
