Default Yerba Mate

I quit drinking coffee a couple of years ago because it absolutely tears me apart. You're welcome for that information. It's not the caffeine that does me in, so I've been a dedicated tea drinker since then, and have all manner of fancy teas and teapots, etc. Someone gave me some Yerba Mate as a holiday gift and I'm really enjoying it. Does anyone drink this stuff? Is some witch doctor going to come enslave me? Any other thoughts on this delicious nectar?

Che Guevara wrote in his book that people in South America drink mate more often than water. Where can I get my hands on some?

Yerba Mate is awesome. Every year at the Natural Products Expo the mate booth is rocking. My gf always has some around and I drink it occasionally, I guess I'm still partial to coffee/espresso.

handsome,
Didn't Che's family own a mate plantation? It's been forever since I read that book.

A guy who used to work upstairs from me would come down to our lab and make mate all the time. I never really got into it.

Mate is pretty much the best thing ever. I've spent hours doing nothing but sitting around, talking, and passing the mate.

I lived in Argentina for a year a while back and we used to drink this stuff 4 or 5 times a day. Its fantastic. We used to drink it by putting the leaves in a gourd, adding a little hot water and sucking it up through a metal straw. It was then refilled and passed onto the next person and so on. Kind of like pass the bong I guess. Of all of the things I miss about Argentina, this has the fondest memories for me.

I drink it frequently, but usually only in cycles. I generally switch between frequently drinking Mate and frequently drinking Coffee.

It's truly amazing stuff. I generally just brew mine in a teapot but I'd like to get a gourd+straw as well.
