They will be behind the Mavs, Spurs and Suns for a long time in the West. They cannot keep both Yao and T-mac healthy, and remember 2004? Mavs blow out Rockets in game 7 by 40. They are a good team and Yao is close to becoming the best center in the league, but they don't have it all together yet.

Avery Johnson made some adjustments to counter what was working for the Rockets. JVG could not respond. There are so many things about JVG I can't stand. The way he refuses to play for a two for one opportunity at the end of quarters. The way he refuses to call a timeout and draw up a play to get a good offensive look in a crucial situation (oh yea, much better to just bring it down with no timeout and take a shot and hope something good happens). The way he takes way too long to call a timeout when the opposing team goes on a big run. The way he calls timeouts when the Rockets are rolling (destroying our momentum). JVG may be a good coach for a mid-talent level team of unknowns and young guys. In that case plugging the right guys into his defensive scheme could produce serviceable enough results. But for this Rockets team, and the personnel we have, he is absolutely WRONG. Even putting injuries aside, this team will never achieve what it could achieve with a coach that knows a thing or two about offense. What's sad is that because of the injuries JVG's gonna get another free pass this season. They brought JVG in because Rudy T was absolutely the wrong coach for the likes of Mobley, Francis, and Cato. A disciplinarian like JVG was thought to be needed. But all the personnel are different now. JVG is all wrong for this team. Put Rudy T back in as coach of this team we have now, and you'd would be looking at 60 wins and a good shot at the Finals. Even with the injuries they'd would be looking at 50 wins or so and a good shot in the playoffs.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure how good/bad JVG is, but aren't his teams also a defensive leader? I always thought he was in the upper 1/3rd of coaches. At least you don't have Doc Rivers.

[/ QUOTE ] this sounds weird considering how quick he would be to use his timeouts when he coached the knicks. it made the games pretty annoying to watch, but it was always funny to see the knicks try to manage the last 2 minutes with only 1 timeout left

Something I never understood is, why is it coaches save timeouts? If a coach thought he could help his team in a certain situations that aren't the last 2 minutes, why not burn them all?

[/ QUOTE ] key part of that GAME 7 so they got to game seven when Yao wasn't nearly as good and they didn't have raefer alston, battier, or bonzi wells! Plus Juan Howard was injured for that series.

JVG is perfect for the rockets. Remember back on the knicks when people were complaining he'd give the ball to EWING to much, well he'll do the same thing with YAO... a good thing. And he always was able to set up iso situations for a guy like alan houston or sprewell. Mcgrady is like the best parts of those two combigned.
