Jeez, seems like everyone is turning away from the Tide (bad pun sorry), scaling this one down to 1 unit, this has just been a tough week to pick NCAA games, Naj any big weekend picks to look forward too? My edges seem too small to make any significant bets worthwhile on these games.

In other news:

Both teams go 6-6.
ALA goes 2-6 in conference.
OK St goes 3-5.

How pathetic of a bowl-game is this?

I'm still feeling iffy about my OSU pick but I had to pick somebody ("had to" because I said I would play every bowl-game this year).

Anyway,
OSU's 3 non-conference wins for them to be bowl-elgible in the first place are:
Missouri St, 52-10
Arkansas St, 35-7
Fla Atlantic, 48-8

Arrrgh, crappy opponents. But at least they didn't have any nail-biters against them.

They lost their other non-conference to Houston, 34-25.

But I like all the close games they lost in-conference to decent/good teams so I'm optimistic.

34-33 to A&M
41-29 to Neb
30-24 to Tex Tech
27-21 to Okla
31-27 to KSU

That's a lot of competitive games where the other team had just enough to squeak past.

Alabama at least defeated half-decent teams non-conference. But they weren't exactly over-powering the whole time:
vs. Hawaii, 25-17
vs. Duke, 30-14

they have their share of respectable losses against good teams too.

But then there's that embarassing 24-16 loss to Miss St.
and barely beating Ole Miss, 26-23 and Vandy 13-10.
Those are 3 pretty embarassing games right there.

when they aren't motivated, as might be the case for this bowl-game with an interim coach and perhaps less discipline on the road, they definitely seem suspect.

Bob, I like the analysis, but I just think that the SEC is too strong of a conference, going 2-6 through that jungle, is still an accomplishment. Betting this one mainly because SEC >>>>>>>>> Big 12

I agree SEC is generally better.

Going 2-6 is not an accomplishment though when your wins are by 3 points each over Ole Miss and Vandy.

Lots of bad teams are good enough to squeak past Miss and Vandy by 3.

Their close games in their 5 losses to Top 25 teams is a much greater accomplishment than their two crappy wins imo.

ARK, 24-23
FLA, 28-13
TEN, 16-13
LSU, 28-14
AUB, 22-15

Looking closer at ALA:

taking some liberties here because their losses could have gone the other way too...but they were pretty close to actually going 0-8 in conference this year.

13-10 vs. Vandy - ALA trailed 10-3 at half. Kicked long FG with 7 mins left to win.

26-23 vs. Ole Miss - They won that game in OT.

although admittedly ALA had 150 yds more on offense than Miss.

Both of these nail-biters came in Tuscaloosa where they presumably should have a pretty strong home-field advantage.

Heh. When people are arguing about the quality of losses for two teams, you know it's gonna be a horrible game.

(BTW, I am on Alabama +2 but don't necessarily like it)

Ditto, but hey I got off work an hour early, and what's the harm in a 100 dollar bet and a glass of bourbon? Pretty even so far..

I teased RU to -2.5 with the over, hopefully the point differential lands somewhere in between so we can both win

(On RU because I gotta root for my state university)
