Re: Blu Ray of HD DVD? Which will win out?
The problem between the two now is some film makers only support 1 format.
Blu Ray is support by: Apple Disney Fox Hitachi LG Lionsgate Mitsubishi Warner Brothers Universal Sony Samsung Dell Philips Hp Pioneer Paramount While HD-DVD is supported by: Microsoft Toshiba NEC Sanyo Intel Paramount Warner Brothers Weinstein Group Image Entertainment Magnolia Pictures Looks like Blu Ray has the edge with supporters although as seen about Paramount, WB are on both. |

Re: Blu Ray of HD DVD? Which will win out?
I would think Blue Ray should win out in the end. It is definitely the better of the two... they just didn't choose their name well. The discs hold more (25GB/layer vs 15GB/layer) have a higher max transfer rate (54MB/s vs 37MB/s) and support more audio data (640kbit/sec vs 448kbit/s). The technology has the setbacks of not being called "HD," being a little more expensive right now and people being generally uninformed about it and the differences between it and "HD," but hopefully the better technology wins out.

Re: Blu Ray of HD DVD? Which will win out?
As much as Sony dropped the ball with the PS3, unless it is a complete Sega Saturn level failure I would have to think that they will sell many more units of the system itself than Microsoft will sell HD-DVD add-ons for $200, giving Blu Ray the edge.
Some Blu Ray movies look so [censored] it's unbelievable. I have watched a bunch and the only ones that look as good or better than normal HDTV broadcasts are X3 and Superman Returns. |
