Re: Casinos Coming To Texas?!?!

I thought Gov. Rick Perry was against Casino type gambling?? If so, Texas will play hell getting casino gambling passed as long as he is around. [/ QUOTE ] When enough potential tax revenue talks, that BS often walks. |

Have any of you guys played at the casino down in Eagle Pass? [/ QUOTE ] I've won the Saturday tourney twice (once when it was limit and once when it was no limit). They mainly spread low limit and it's no fold 'em all the way. They do have a $2/$5 NL (500 max) game that is not easy to beat. The group of "regulars" are playing on very large bankrolls, and they put max pressure on the "tourists." In other words, they have no problem playing very loose and aggressive. If you're not there when the game first starts, they have built up stacks of over $2k by the time you sit down, in essence leaving you as short stack. Finally, the poker room is pretty nice (plasma tv's, comfy chairs, etc.) but the drinks aren't free, and the room is horribly run (from a game standpoint). Their rulings are inconsistent, and the regulars get preferential treatment. If it's a short drive, it's worth going once to check it out. That said, I live in San Antonio (2.5 hr drive) and I'd rather slit my wrists than drive there again. It's that bad. |

Re: Casinos Coming To Texas?!?!
Be careful what you wish for. When they legalize casinos in a state many times they add language prohibiting online gambling in that very state. Hypocritical? Absolutely. But you cannot gamble online in Nevada.

The hurdles aren't as great as they have been in the past. Some of the historical hardline anti-gambling expansionists are in support of the Texas Gaming Association's 12-casino bill. John Carona has come out voicing support. http://www.wfaa.com/sharedcontent/dws/ne...n1.3ddfecf.html

And if they were, they wouldn't hold up in court because state laws dealing with interstate commerce are unconstitutional. |

Re: Casinos Coming To Texas?!?!
So can someone figure out the timeline for this? I know the Texas Legislature only convenes every once in a while, so what are we realistically looking at in terms of timing?

Visit my website for more info. http://www.legalizetexasgambling.com [/ QUOTE ] This bill isn't really that rosy for poker, simply because it makes poker dependant on those casinos spreading same, and because the limitations as to the numbers of casinos means poker won't be spread legally in many places. Poker players in Texas should write their reps to ammend that proposed constitutional ammendment to have a poker exception, where an unlimited number of poker rooms can be created in any venue, pending local option referendum. Texas is too big of a concentration of poker players to have legal poker penned up in 12 locations and at the mercy of -EV gambling establishments. The limitation to 12 venues is the kind of semi-pandering to anti-gambling forces where you beg for a few crumbs. But poker players have to make the case that poker and other forms of skill based gambling are different and should be treated differently. |
