Card rooms in/near San Luis Obispo, CA

In a couple of weeks I'll be going to San Luis Obispo to visit in-laws. Can anyone give me information on cardrooms in/near San Luis? Wife actually encourages me to escape for a few hours each day. (I'm much more willing to stay longer that way).

Check out the Chumash Indian Casino down near Santa Ynez. About a 20 table card room. I know many of the students from Cal Poly SLO play there. Unfortunately its about an hour away from SLO.

Thanks. Know anything about the Centra Coast Casino in Grover Beach? It's on a list of CA poker rooms, but no other information.

CCC in Grover is a small room with two tables. It's in the back of a bar, but isn't dive-y at all (tables have shuffling machines). They spread limit games: one table is always $3/$6, other ranges from $3/$6 to $6/$12 depending on the day, sometimes they have a kill, etc. The action is ridiculously soft. Nobody folds before the flop, people raise way too often (and once a pot gets raised it's very likely to get capped); it's pretty typical to see pots contested 3+ ways for 4 bets or 5+ ways for 2 bets preflop. They have a website at http://www.slopoker.com. If you play limit I would definitely go here before Chumash; action is much better, and it's way closer.

CCC has another location in Paso Robles, which is about 40 miles north; the only reason you might go there is the NL game they have on Friday nights, b/c it's 30 miles closer than Chumash. However, it's a pretty crappy structure: $1/$3 blinds with a $20 min/$60 max buyin. Players are the worst I've ever seen (and that's saying a lot for a live game) and stacks get deeper over the course of the night, but to get to that point you still have to suffer through hours of shortstack poker. If you want to play NL you're probably just better off going to Chumash and playing the $1/$2 $50 buyin game or the $2/$5 $100-$200 buyin or $300-$500 buyin game (latter only runs Fri-Sun though, and even then doesn't always get going).

Thanks for the info on CCC. Their website looks like a friendly place (for what a website is worth), and since I'll be staying in Arroyo Grande, it's very close. I'll give it a try.

I just spent three evenings at the Grover Beach CCC, and everything Goofy said is right-on. Very friendly little place. I had a great time even though I lost my shirt to the suck-outs. If anyone finds themselves in the area, it's a great place to play.

Did Theresa cook you the steak around dinner time?

When I first got into poker, I was going to cal poly and I learned at the CCC. I love that place.
