Boss gave me a winning lottery ticket -- 25K now what ?

Your boss gives you a $5 scratch ticket for Christmas.
Its a 25,000 winner. Should net about 17K after taxes.

Some background - you work in a warehouse and make $18 an hour. Your boss is actually, a group leader, he is out on the shop floor working side by side with you. He probably makes about $23 an hour. He's a good guy, he can be a hard-ass at times. (but thats his job; he is the boss)

I'm thinking about giving him $1000.

I wouldn't tell him the exact amount, maybe say you won like 1,000 or 500 and dinner sounds good, or if you're nice you could say you won 5,000 and give him 500-2000. Anyway I wouldn't say how much you won, cause I can see some trouble happening then.

You owe him nothing. That being said, if you give him $1000, that is a very generous and nice of you. I'd give him it just for karma's sake.

that's weird, just tell everyone at work you won $1500 and buy them all lunch.

I'd say give him some. Whether it's $1,000 or a different amount, that's up to you. I agree with the above poster that I don't think it's a good idea to tell him exactly how much you won. Nothing good could come of this.

Bring in bagels and donuts everyday next week. Arrange for one nice catered lunch or lunch out if permitted.

In reality, he could have given the winning ticket to any one of your co-workers. Better to blow some of the winnings on everyone rather than taking your boss to dinner.

BTW -- You don't 'owe' your boss anything. A small token (bottle of booze) in addition to above is fine.
