Default Suggestions for two days in Vegas

My brother, brother-in-law and I are spending the 29th and 30th in Vegas at the Flamingo (primarily due to price and location) and need suggestions for things to do. I've been to Vegas only once myself over 10 years ago but it would be another couple of years before I even started playing poker.

This trip, I'll probably be the only poker playing and plan on spending the bulk of my time at the Mirage (5/10 - 10/20 and maybe some NL or PL thrown in) based on reviews I've read, though I want to visit the Venetian poker room and a couple of others. My brothers are mostly blackjack and craps players although my younger brother shocked me recently when he said he'd set up an account at Full Tilt (ah, the power of TV).

I've been to allvegaspoker.com (along with lasvegasadvisor.com, i4vegas.com, and cheapovegas.com) and found many time suggestions and printed many pages. I read the Restaurants in Vegas sticky until my eyes glazed over and came away with a desire to eat at Delmonicos at a minimum with some other possibilities.

Other that that, I'm a clean slate. First, is there anything 'must do' in the Flamingo itself? Any other suggestions for this 'quickee' in Vegas are much appreciated.

Have lunch at the top of the Stratosphere. Lunches are between $10-$25, it's casual dress, and the veiw from the top is a must see. Call ahead to make a reservation.

Also, if you dare to venture downtown to Freemont Street, be sure to check out the nightly laser light show.

Hi Beernutz, It sounds like you've already done your fair share of homework... so I'll just fill in where I can.. I don't think you'll find many 'must see' attractions inside the Flamingo. Try to hit up as many of the major poker rooms as possible. You're wise to check out the Venetian, as it's a great room. Make sure you sign up for a comp card there, which is good at the Cheesecake Factory owned cafe inside the casino.

And for the games/limits you're planning to play I also suggest stopping by Wynn.. Actually, if you go to Wynn for lunch I recommend the golf course restaurant. It's relatively affordable (by Wynn standards), and the food + view is exceptional.

I should note that you won't find much (any?) $5/10 limit action in Vegas, but $8/16 is available at Wynn and Venetian, and of course $10/20 is almost always going at Mirage.

Have a great time!

5/10, 10/20 is way to high for limit at the flamingo...

1/2 NL at flamingo is a great game IMO... no one ever talks about it on these forums... I find some of the smaller rooms at times better than the bigger rooms... some of the more punky college kids at the bigger rooms are anoying at times and I don't want to deal with them...

everything at mirage poker wise is good though... i feel it is a much better room... bellagio sometimes is to big, to many college kids.. but the key here is sometimes... bellagio is an awesome room when you're in the mood... when you want mellow poker... not the best joint.

Mandalay bay... good small poker room..

excalibur... bad players.. but they miss the boat for some reason...

MGM nice... fantastic... poker room.

Wynn... I don't get why people think its the next comming... but everything he does works in the end doesn't it?

For random food goodness:

I think one of te best breakfast places on the strip is the NY strip steak and eggs at luxor.... but the poker room there is a complete waste of time.... so good sometimes.

The egg rolls and fried rice at barbary coast breakfast joint are well worth the trip.. and they serve them at all hours of the day... and next to the flamingo you can't get closer being at flamingo. Also barbary is one of the best places to drink. (non club type drinking)

The mandalay bay breakfast join is awful IMO... so is Mirages...

Buffets at bellagio and RIO (seafood buffets) are fantastic.

AJs steak house at Hard rock is awesome on days that are not busy... i.e. tue, wed, maybe thurs.... but stay away from it fri/sat.

The bazilian steak house at mirage (somba?) is awesome... all you can eat meat that is fantastic.

emeril's joints are fantastic.... delmonico or the one at MGM...

Itialian food on the strip is way sub-par on the stip in most cases... although I have not been to all of them.. I've been to most... to touristy.... Carlito or something on tropicana is good...

Try that join in the basement of 4 queens... hugoes Cellar or something.

3 words. double fat burger.

cheaper food IMO in vegas is just that.. cheap food. if it is 805% off between 5 and 6... its for a reason.

try the bar on top of rio... i voodo lounge or something.. it has a cool view of the stip....

The view is awesome and the prices are reasonable. However I wouldn't recommend the Kobe burger. If that's real Kobe beef then I'm Bob Hope.

As long as you are staying at the Flamingo, I recommend going to see the feeding time at the flamingo and penguin pens.

Yes, it's a bit cheesey, but it's fast, free, and right at your hotel.

They do it twice a day. The morning one is like 9:00, which if you are like me, is not so bad, because even turning in at 5:00 in LV, I seem to wake up before 9:00.

Set your phone alarm for the feeding times, and if you are at the hotel stop by.
