I have three different programs to play DVD's on my Dell laptop, but none of them will play any of my DVD's. This is a new problem. WIth windows media center it just says "can't play DVD". With Dell's Cineplayer it starts to acts like its going to play but goes right back the the screen where it says "Play, Resume, Exit" and window media player says "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection."
Any ideas on what is going on? I can play video games from the drive that have cinematics no problem. Thanks for any help. |

I had a similar (kind of?) problem where any dvd I'd try to play had background sound and music, but no voices. It just started out of the blue one day.
I reinstalled my audio and video drivers, and that did the trick. Worth a try. |

i'm also having problems with my dvds. whenever i play files saved on my harddrive, everything is fine. however, when i play a dvd in either my dvd drive or in my dvd burn drive, the images are choppy. it kind of skips along, almost like a dirty dvd, but the dvds are clean and it happens for all of them.
i'd be suprised if there were problems with both drives...suggestions? |

I had similar problems, and the cause was my IDE driver had somehow gotten set to PIO mode instead of a DMA mode, and the system was getting choked with interrupt requests. To top it off, it would not let me select a DMA mode. To fix it, I removed the IDE drivers and then rebooted, and when Windows came up it reinstalled the drivers in an ultra DMA mode and everything was peachy again. This worked for me, YMMV.

Can someone explain to a dummy like me how to do the things that are suggested in this thread?
Thanks |

See this http://forums.techguy.org/multimedia...wont-play.html
for info on the problem. I just changed the date on my systems to 12/21/05 and it works. Computers are really dumb. Why would the date have anything to do with my DVD player working correctly? Thanks for your help everyone. |
